Sonoco Products Company, headquartered in Hartsville, South Carolina, has invested $12 million to create a new, innovative packaging studio to study consumers. The space includes kitchen, living room, retail, and even bathroom areas to observe customer interactions with packaging. The other big phase of iPS is the manufacturing pilot plant. The pilot plant gives the ability to rapidly prototype and test manufacture new ideas.

Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics at Clemson University
One of Sonoco’s first ventures in packaging innovation dealt with funding the Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics at Clemson University. The space has similar qualities to iPS. The institute is 3 floors starting with Graphics on the top floor, Prototyping, Design, and Research on the main floor, and test pilot manufacturing in the basement. We are an established executive member with the Sonoco Institute, and we pride ourselves in working within the world class facilities. If you are interested in visiting the institute, check out the events page below for more information.
